Michael Seager of Austin, TX Joins the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
In his own words ... "My story starts in 2008 when my brother, Joseph Seager, took his bai'at. I was living with him at the time and felt very skeptical about his conversion. I had always prayed in an informal manner and believed in God as I grew up in the Christian Church. Growing up in America, I had a very bad view of Islam. As I watched my brother change, my views changed. Although he changed in many ways, the overall happiness and the light in his eyes struck me the hardest. We had been through so much, and it was such a blessing to see him happy. It made me question, "What is this that my brother has gotten a hold of?" About a year after his conversion, I decided to start experimenting with some Islamic practices. I wanted to see if they would work for me. Not only did they work; they worked really well. I was astonished how quickly my prayers were accepted. Still, I did not jump right in. I decided to take things slowly at first. I had followed another religion for so long; it had become very hard to completely change my beliefs. About a year and a half after my brother’s bai'at my Mother, whom I did not expect would ever convert, decided one day that she was going to. At this point I was ready to accept Islam. I had gotten myself together spiritually and mentally. Alhamdulillah. Yet, I was so busy with school, I decided to wait until winter break. On January 6, 2011, I signed my bai'at at the Houston Mosque so my mother could accompany me." |
