Yes, yes, we know that you've been to a lot of places this year for the sake of your faith, Hazur (aba) visit to LA, Jalsa Salana USA 2013, and now Ijtema USA 2013. You are probably wondering, no, it's too much for this year. But let's just take a different perspective for a moment and visualize several different reasons of why you should attend Ijtema USA 2013.
1. Replenish your soul.
Replenishing your soul is essential because it provides a way to refill your soul's spiritual balance. Like financial struggle, spiritual struggle is no different. Every spiritual struggle that we face throughout the year we lose somewhat on our spiritual balance. However, if we stop replenishing this balance in our spiritual account then we are in endanger of writing bad spiritual checks. Every jamaat and MKA event is a way to regain some of this lost balance and help to maintain it for the days ahead - tahajjud, daily congregational prayers, and tarbiyyat lessons.
2. Build and rebuild brotherhood
By the grace of Allah, there are over 68 chapters spread throughout this great land and for most part of the year we hardly see each other. This is no fault of our own, but because of the vast distances that sometimes separates us. The connection we all have being part of the America's leading Muslim youth organization goes far and deep, more than any other youth organization in this country. We can never let go of this kind of brotherhood, but only build it further to the point of Ita'i-Dhil-Qurba (level of kinship mentioned in Qur'an). Every year ijtema does just this and we need more participation to experience it.
We are human beings and we do not know everything. Every day has something new to teach us. During ijtema between the academic competitions, Q&A with learned members, workshops, and some speeches; we learn a whole lot. This path of education is what will separate us from other paths. It would provide the right nourishment for the young bright minds of MKA and Atfal ul Ahmadiyya. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) had elevated education by saying that wisdom is a believer's lost treasure and even if you must travel to China (the furthest anyone could forseeably travel at the time) to seek knowledge, then go. So, going to ijtema is not even that far.
4. Just plain old fun!
Every youngster in America goes to some sort of summer camp for some particular reason. But they never sacrifice their fun for it. We don't either. It begins with a cool road trip (if you are not flying) where you sit with your brothers for whatever odd amount of hours of travel on the road and pretty much eat junk food, then participate in sports against your brothers from other cities to possibly win the trophy for your majlis, then participate in some inane games, and finally eat good food for three straight days. What could be better than that.
When you think from the perspective of these reasons of why you should come to ijtema this year then the decision is not that hard. Its is easy to think of a thousand reasons of why you should not come to this year's Ijtema USA 2013, but i challenge you to spend some time to think of one good reason of why you should.
Oh, by the way, did i mention its only a 40 minutes drive from New York.
